The "New Sinology Program" is established by the Center for Sino-Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation (CCLEC) to support foreign students to come to China for doctoral studies and research, and to cultivate young sinologists with an international academic outlook, a good understanding of international academic rules, and the ability to participate in international academic exchanges and research, which includes the PhD program and the Sino-Foreign Cooperative Program. We welcome qualified young scholars to apply for the program. The PhD Program in China provides financial support for outstanding master's degree graduates from all over the world to study for doctoral degrees in China, and the basic duration of the program is four years. Qualifications Aspire to conduct research in China-related humanities and social sciences, have a solid academic foundation, have a clear research topic or goal, and be able to conduct research in Chinese, as follows: 1. Non-Chinese nationals holding valid foreign passports. 2. For applicants who are residents of mainland China (Mainland), Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Macao Special Administrative Region, and Taiwan who have immigrated and acquired foreign nationality as foreign students, they should hold a valid foreign passport or a document certifying their nationality by April 30, 2019, and possess a proof that they have cancelled their Chinese nationality. Note: Whether the applicant has the nationality of the People's Republic of China while having a foreign nationality is subject to the conclusion of the nationality determination by the Exit-Entry Administration Department of the public security organs of China. If the applicant is found to have Chinese nationality after application, admission and enrollment, the eligibility for application, admission, enrollment or school registration will be canceled. 2.Be physically and mentally healthy, of good character, have no criminal record, willing to abide by Chinese laws and regulations as well as school rules and regulations, and be friendly to China. 3.Applicants must have a master's degree conferred by an institution recognized by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. 4.Applicants must meet the entrance requirements of the program they are applying for in terms of academic performance, academic level and language ability. 5.Chinese language proficiency: Chinese language instruction: Chinese language proficiency of HSK6 level 210 points, including no less than 65 points in writing. Those who have taken the new HSK7-9 can submit the corresponding qualified score report. English language: Chinese language proficiency up to HSK5; applicants whose native language is not English must submit TOEFL (iBT, 100 or above) or GRE (315 or above) transcripts or other proofs of their English language proficiency. The specific requirements of English and Chinese language proficiency shall be subject to the enrollment prospectus of each English-medium program. Step 2: Log on to Peking University International Student Online Service System at www.studyatpku.com to apply online. Enrollment Code: CSP-PHD Online Application Path: Application - Degree - New Sinology Program (Doctoral Program) Upload the following application materials: 1. Undergraduate Degree Certificate (original or notarized translation in Chinese or English) 2. Undergraduate Transcripts (original or notarized translation in Chinese or English) 3: Fresh graduates of master's degree are required to submit the original certificate of expected graduation or certificate of enrollment at the time of application, and after being proposed for admission, they are required to submit additional documents proving their academic degrees before enrollment. 4.Transcripts of master's degree (original or notarized translation in Chinese or English) 5. Two letters of recommendation from professors or associate professors (or experts with equivalent professional and technical titles) in the field of specialization applied for, in Chinese or English. The recommender will receive an email from the system after the applicant submits the email application, and can complete the online recommendation according to the system instructions or upload a scanned copy of the recommendation letter signed by the recommender. The passport must be a valid passport within three months after enrollment. 13.Other supplementary documents required by the university and the faculty. Note: (1) The applicant's supervisor must be the same in both websites. (2) If the applicant has already contacted his/her target advisor and received a reply, please upload the relevant email or letter to the "Other Supplementary Documents" section. (3) Application materials will not be returned regardless of acceptance. (4) Peking University reserves the right to request additional documents. (5) All original documents must be scanned in color by a scanner. Documents taken by cell phone or camera will not be accepted. Application Deadline: February 28, 2025 2. Students will be notified of the result of their admission by email. Admitted students are required to send or mail the original downloaded and printed application form and other original application materials (except degree certificates and recommendation letters) to the International Students Office of Peking University by the specified date. New students are expected to report for enrollment and registration in early September, 2025, according to the acceptance notice. Admitted international students should report to the university at the specified time with their passports, visas to study in China and admission notices. New students shall bring their original degree certificates to the university for reviewing their qualifications for admission. Applicants who have obtained their degree certificates in foreign universities should in principle submit the original degree authentication report from the Service Center for Scholarly Exchange of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. Applicants who do not meet the enrollment requirements will be disqualified from enrollment. Visa, Medical Insurance and Accommodation Admitted students shall apply for a study visa in China at the Chinese Embassy or Consulate abroad with the admission notice and the Confirmation Form for Foreign Students Coming to China (JW202). If the duration of study is more than 6 months, students must apply for an X1 visa and change the X1 visa into a residence permit for study at the International Students Office within 30 days after their arrival in China. The Ministry of Education of China stipulates that international students must purchase medical insurance in China. Students can purchase comprehensive medical insurance coverage for incoming students at the registration desk on the day of arrival. The university will not process the registration procedure for those who have not purchased the required medical insurance. International students who live off-campus are required to register with the local public security authorities within 24 hours of renting the apartment. V. Graduation and Degree Conferment Upon completion of the study period, fulfillment of the requirements stipulated in the cultivation plan, passing of the grades and defense of the dissertation, students will be allowed to graduate and be conferred the corresponding degree after the examination and approval of the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee of the university. Further information about the faculties and departments, such as basic information of the faculties and departments, scientific research, supervisory team, cultivation and scholarships, etc., can be found on the websites of the relevant faculties and departments. 2.The University does not allow graduate students to hold two or more academic registrations at the same time. 3.Applicants should pay attention to the relevant documents and notices issued and sent by the University and the enrollment faculties in a timely manner, and they shall bear all the consequences due to their negligence and other personal reasons. 4.Matters not yet settled shall be carried out in accordance with the relevant policies of the higher authorities and the university.
