Founded in 1898 at the time of the Hundred Days' Reform, Peking University, initially known as the Peking University Hall, was the first national comprehensive university in China and the highest educational administrative body in China at that time, and its establishment marked the beginning of higher education organized by the state, thus creating China's modern academic system. Since its establishment, Peking University has been enjoying a high reputation, which can be described as "inheriting the tradition of the Imperial College from above and establishing the ancestor of the university from below". I. Basic Information Peking University is one of the most complete universities in China, with seven departments: Humanities, Social Sciences, Economics and Management, Science, Information Science and Technology, Engineering, and Medicine, 11 disciplines, 51 undergraduate majors, and 137 undergraduate majors. The university insists on talent cultivation as the core mission of the university, and strives to provide students with the best learning and growth experience. The academic program for foreign undergraduates at Peking University lasts four to six years, and the language of instruction is Chinese. After completing all the courses stipulated in the cultivation program and passing the thesis defense, students will be awarded the undergraduate diploma issued by Peking University; those who meet the requirements for bachelor's degree conferment will be awarded the corresponding bachelor's degree upon examination and approval by the university. The Entrance Examination is an important way to enroll foreign undergraduates at Peking University, aiming at attracting outstanding students from all over the world to study at Peking University, and cultivating innovative and leading talents with Peking University's heritage, Chinese sentiment and international vision. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens, hold a valid foreign ordinary passport, and comply with the relevant provisions of the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China. In principle, they should be between 18 and 25 years old (born between September 1, 2001 and September 1, 2008). Be physically and mentally healthy, of good character, friendly to China, and have no illegal or criminal records. Have a full-time high school diploma or above. 2.For applicants who were born with foreign nationality and both or one of their parents were Chinese citizens at the time of their birth, or who were originally residents of mainland China (Mainland), Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and then immigrated abroad and acquired foreign nationality, they must comply with the requirements of the document of the Ministry of Education of the PRC "Education and Foreign Affairs Letter [2020] No. 12", and submit the corresponding supporting documents in accordance with the requirements of the school's enrollment. Whether an applicant has both foreign nationality and nationality of the People's Republic of China shall be based on the conclusion of the nationality determination by the relevant administrative department of the public security organs of China. (1) If the applicant acquired foreign nationality at birth in a foreign country, if both parents were Chinese citizens at birth, or if one of the parents is a Chinese citizen, the applicant's parents (the Chinese citizen side) must have acquired the right of permanent residence in a foreign country before the applicant's birth, and the applicant must have a record of actually residing in a foreign country for more than 2 years from April 30, 2022 to April 30, 2026 (actually residing in a foreign country for a full period of 9 months in a year can be counted as one year. 9 months in a year can be counted as one year, subject to the entry and exit stamps). (2) Residents of Mainland China (China), Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, after emigrating to a foreign country, as an international student applicant, must have acquired a foreign nationality before April 30, 2022 and have a record of actual residence abroad for more than 2 years from April 30, 2022 to April 30, 2026 (actual residence abroad for 9 months in a year can be counted as one year, subject to the entry and exit stamps). (The entry and exit visa shall prevail). 3.Comprehensive quality, excellent academic performance, high aspirations, excellent development potential, strong sense of social responsibility and broad international vision. All application materials must be in Chinese or English, and materials in other languages must be accompanied by notarized Chinese or English translations. Templates and instructions are provided for some of the materials and can be downloaded by clicking on them. Upload the electronic version of the materials in Peking University's online application system. Those who are finally admitted to the program must bring and submit the original materials at the time of registration. Please keep all materials in a safe place. (II) List of Materials 1. Front page of foreign passport (personal information page). Applicants should submit the application with a foreign ordinary passport, in principle, the passport validity date should be later than March 31, 2027; applicants who are currently in China are also required to provide the residence permit or visa they hold in China. 2.Proof of nationality. (1) the applicant was born in a foreign country to acquire foreign nationality, both or one of the parents were Chinese citizens at the time of birth, you need to provide: ① the applicant was born to acquire foreign nationality ② the applicant's parents (Chinese citizens) before the birth of the certificate of permanent residence in a foreign country. If you are unable to provide, you must submit your own proof of nationality ③ entry and exit records between April 30, 2022 and April 30, 2026 ④ Nationality Guarantee (click to download). (2) Applicants who joined foreign nationality after emigrating from China must provide: ① Certificate of Chinese nationality withdrawal ② Certificate of cancellation of Chinese household registration ③ Certificate of joining foreign nationality ④ Record of entry and exit between April 30, 2022 and April 30, 2026 ⑤ Guarantee of nationality (click to download). 3.Documents proving full-time high school education. Fresh graduates can provide a certificate of expected graduation from their high school. 4.Transcripts of all courses taken in high school. 5.Personal statement. 6.Relevant grades, awards, certificates, etc. (if any). 7.Candidate's application undertaking (Click to download), without which the application will not be accepted. 8.Candidates' self-introduction video (Click to download). 9.Application Form for Undergraduate Admission of International Students of Peking University (Download and print after successful online application). A recent 2-inch color photo of the applicant with a white background must be pasted on the application form. 10.Other supplementary materials required. V. Application Methods 1. Online application. Applicants should log in the online application system for foreign students of Peking University (http://www.studyatpku.com), choose "Degree Students", enter "Undergraduates Admitted by Examination", fill in the application information and upload relevant materials. The online application system will be open from 12:00 on January 1, 2026 to 23:59 on February 28, 2026 (Beijing time), whichever is the first time the applicant submits the information. Applicants are not allowed to apply for two or more Peking University undergraduate admission programs for foreign students at the same time. 2.Payment of Application Fee. The application fee must be paid after submitting the online application. Applicants who have not paid the application fee will not be examined. 3.Preliminary examination and test. Peking University will conduct a preliminary examination of the applicants' qualifications and materials, and only those who pass the examination will be allowed to take the preliminary examination. Subjects of the preliminary examination: Chinese, English and Mathematics. The preliminary examination will be held at the end of March 2026, and the specific arrangement will be announced. 4.Review Examination. Only those who pass the preliminary examination will be allowed to take the reexamination. The retest will be held in mid-April 2026, and the specific arrangements will be announced later. 5.Pre-admission. Applicants are required to pass the preliminary examination and the reexamination to gain pre-admission. The preliminary examination list, review list and pre-admission results can be accessed through the online application system. After the pre-admission, there is still a review process, if any violation or inaccurate material is found, the applicant's pre-admission will be canceled and the responsibility will be pursued. 6.Admission and Enrollment. Admission materials are expected to be distributed from June 2026 onwards. In September 2026, candidates will report for enrollment with relevant materials. Specific arrangements will be announced separately. VI. Related Fees 1. Application fee. 800 RMB, payable online when submitting the online application. The application fee is non-refundable after payment. 2.Tuition fee. To be notified after approval. Payment can only be made online, by UnionPay card or RMB cash. VII. Scholarships for Undergraduate Foreign Students Undergraduate students who are finally admitted may apply for appropriate scholarships according to relevant regulations. All scholarship recipients are required to participate in the annual evaluation as required. 1.Chinese Government Scholarships (1) Eligibility Requirements Applicants applying for Chinese Government Scholarships are required to take the "China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) Test for Undergraduate Admission for Study in China," organized by the China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as the CSCA Test) of the Ministry of Education of China. (hereinafter referred to as "CSCA test") organized by the China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as "CSCA") of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and submit valid scores. Applicants can visit the official website of CSCA (https://www.csca.cn) to check the time and content of the test. Applicants applying for admission to faculties belonging to the Division of Science, Division of Information Science and Technology, and Division of Engineering of Peking University must choose at least one of Physics and Chemistry, in addition to the mandatory test of Chinese and Mathematics in Science. Applicants for other departments must take two tests in Chinese Language and Mathematics. All of the above tests must be taken in Chinese. (2) Application Procedure The scholarship (Type A country program) must be applied through the sending department of the host country (e.g., Chinese Embassy or Consulate General), please contact the relevant department in advance for details. Applicants should log in the "Management Information System for Chinese Government Scholarships for Studying in China" (studyinchina.csc.edu.cn) to complete the registration, choose "Type A" scholarship when filling out the application form, and choose Peking University as the preferred institution. Select "Type A" scholarship when filling out the application form, and choose Peking University as your first choice. Candidates for Chinese Government Scholarships who are invited to Peking University by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) are required to pass the qualification examination and interview of Peking University before they are qualified for pre-admission. (3) Financial Support Criteria Tuition fee is waived, accommodation is provided, medical insurance is provided, and living expenses are paid on a monthly basis. 2. Beijing Government Scholarships for International Students and Peking University Scholarships for International Students (1) How to Apply The university will award "Beijing Government Scholarships for International Students" or "Peking University Scholarships for International Students" to qualified applicants based on the comprehensive evaluation. "Applicants do not need to apply separately. Applicants do not need to apply separately. Please make sure that your contact information is accurate and uninterrupted, and check the email notification in time. (2) Funding Criteria Peking University Scholarships for International Students: Full or partial tuition waiver, medical insurance, and monthly living expenses. Beijing Government Scholarships for International Students: Category A: Tuition waiver, accommodation, medical insurance and monthly living expenses. Category B: Tuition fee exemption, accommodation and medical insurance. Category C: Tuition fee exemption and medical insurance. According to the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education of China, all foreign students are required to purchase comprehensive medical insurance in mainland China during their study in China (for details, please refer to: http://www.lxbx.net). Students are required to complete the insurance before arrival. If students fail to take out the insurance, the university will not process the registration procedure. Accommodation Except for the scholarships that explicitly provide accommodation, students are required to solve the accommodation problem by themselves and bear the corresponding expenses. Peking University has dormitories for international students with different specifications and conditions for reservation. Those who live off-campus are required to register for accommodation within 24 hours after moving in. X. Visa Those who have been admitted must apply for X1 visas from the Chinese Embassies and Consulates abroad with the admission notice issued by the University and the Confirmation Form for Foreign Students Coming to China (JW201/202); they should apply for a residence permit for study at the University within 30 days after their entry into China.
