Peking University (Peking University) is a comprehensive research university with a wide range of disciplines including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, medicine, management, arts and cross-disciplines. The university admits international students (hereinafter referred to as international students) to study for master's and doctoral degrees by "application and examination" selection, and is actively committed to cultivating innovative and leading talents with Peking University's heritage, Chinese sentiment and international vision. The teaching area of the University includes Yanyuan Campus, New Yanyuan Campus (Changping District, Beijing), School of Software and Microelectronics (Daxing District, Beijing) and Shenzhen Graduate School (Shenzhen). I. Admission Specialties The information about the admission departments, specialties and languages of instruction of Peking University is listed in the Catalogue of Admission Specialties of Peking University Master's/Doctoral Students in 2026 (International Students on the Campus). Mode of Study and Length of Study 1. The mode of study for Peking University master's and doctoral students is divided into full-time and part-time. The mode of study and language of instruction of each major and research direction are listed in Catalogue of Peking University Master's/Doctoral Candidates 2026 (International Students on the Campus). 2. Unless otherwise specified by the relevant faculty (department, institute or research institute) or program, the duration of study for master's degree is two or three years, that for doctoral degree is four or five years, and that for bachelor's degree holders pursuing doctoral degree directly is generally five years. Applicants must also fulfill the following basic requirements: Non-Chinese citizens with valid foreign passports. For applicants who are residents of Mainland China (China), Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Macao Special Administrative Region and Taiwan who have immigrated and acquired foreign nationality and then apply as foreign students, they should hold a valid foreign passport or document proving their nationality before April 30, 2020 and possess a proof that they have canceled their Chinese nationality. Note: Whether or not an applicant has the nationality of the People's Republic of China while having a foreign nationality is subject to the conclusion of the nationality determination by the Exit-Entry Administration Department of the public security organs of China. If the applicant is found to have Chinese nationality after application, admission and enrollment, the eligibility for application, admission, enrollment or school registration will be canceled. 2. Be physically and mentally healthy, of good character, with no record of violation of laws or crimes, and willing to abide by Chinese laws and regulations as well as the rules and regulations of the university. 3. Graduate students applying for master's degree should have a bachelor's degree or above conferred by an institution recognized by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China; special application requirements for individual professional degrees such as public administration, business administration, senior management business administration, law, and so on, shall be implemented in accordance with the "Regulations on the Administration of the National Master's Degree Enrollment Work in 2026" of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. Graduate students applying for doctoral degree should have a master's degree or above conferred by institutions recognized by the Ministry of Education of China. The Science and Technology Program accepts outstanding bachelor's degree holders to apply directly for the doctoral degree. 4. The applicants' academic performance, academic level and language ability must meet the admission requirements of the majors they apply for. Application Period (Beijing Time) October 20, 2025 to December 23, 2025 Note: The application deadline for each English-medium master's degree program is listed in the corresponding admission instructions. V. Application Login to Peking University International Student Online Service System (URL: http://www.studyatpku.com) to fill in the application and upload the following application materials: 1. Original degree certificates and degree authentication reports in Chinese or English. If the degree certificate is a document in other languages, both the original and the notarized document of Chinese or English translation must be uploaded. In principle, applicants who have obtained their degree certificates from universities in foreign countries must submit the degree authentication report issued by the Service Center for Scholarly Exchange of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China (MOE). In principle, applicants who have obtained their degree certificates from universities in Mainland China must submit the degree authentication report from China Higher Education Student Information Network (Xuexin). Note: Applicants who have already graduated are required to submit the degree certificate authentication report at the time of application. Fresh graduates are required to submit the original certificate of expected graduation or certificate of enrollment at the time of application, and after being proposed for admission, they are required to submit additional documents certifying their academic degrees before enrollment. 2. Original or notarized official transcripts from the graduating institution in Chinese or English. 3. Original personal statement. A brief introduction of your academic background in the language of the program you are applying for, with a focus on your research plans during your graduate studies. Two letters of recommendation from professors or associate professors (or experts with equivalent professional and technical titles) in the field of specialization applied for, in Chinese or English. The recommender will receive an email from the system after the applicant submits the email application, and can follow the instructions of the system to complete the online recommendation or upload a scanned copy of the recommendation letter signed by the recommender. Original transcripts of language (Chinese or English) examinations: (1) Applicants applying for disciplines taught in Chinese should submit transcripts or other relevant documents proving their Chinese language proficiency in accordance with the following standards. (1) Applicants applying for different academic disciplines Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) Writing (Composition) Science and Engineering majors Grade 6 200 or above, not less than 65 points Humanities and Social Sciences majors Grade 6 210 or above, not less than 65 points Note: Those who have taken the New HSK Grade 7-9 examination may submit the corresponding qualified score report. (2) Applicants of English-taught majors (programs) whose native language is not English are required to submit TOEFL (iBT, above 100 points) or GRE (above 315 points) transcripts or other proofs of their English proficiency. Specific requirements for English and Chinese language proficiency are based on the admissions brochures of each English-medium program. 7. Passport front page. The front page of all passports that have been in continuous use since April 30, 2020 and are still valid within three months after admission must be uploaded. 8. Personal Research Results. Catalogs and abstracts of published academic articles, other original research results, etc. (please provide if available). 9. Other supplementary documents required by the faculty. Note: The originals of all the above supporting documents must be submitted as color scans after being clearly scanned by a scanner; documents taken by cell phones or cameras will not be accepted. The applicant's passport name, nationality, gender, date of birth and uploaded photo will not be allowed to be modified before enrollment once the application is confirmed and submitted. Before submitting your application, be sure to check and verify that all documents (including two letters of recommendation) are acceptable and complete. Applicants who fail to pass the examination due to incomplete or unqualified documents are responsible for the consequences. Application Fee Each applicant can apply for a maximum of two applications, and the application fee for each application is RMB 800 yuan. Applicants are required to pay the application fee online before the application deadline (follow the instructions of the International Student Online Service System to make online payment). Payment is only accepted in RMB, no other currencies and traveler's checks are accepted. The application fee is non-refundable. Incomplete uploaded materials or unsuccessful payment of the application fee will not be accepted. Preliminary Examination and Re-examination 1. The Office of International Students will conduct a preliminary examination of the applicants' qualifications and application materials, and forward the application materials of those who have passed the preliminary examination to the admission faculties and departments. 2. The review and admission working group of each admission department will organize experts to review the materials of eligible applicants' past academic performance, academic foundation and cultivation potential, etc., and draw up a list of students who will be allowed to participate in the reexamination on the basis of their merits. 3. The reexamination is proposed to be held in March 2026 . The specific format, requirements and time schedule of the reexamination will be determined and announced by the faculty. Applicants are required to check the relevant announcements on the faculty's website in a timely manner. The members of the reexamination expert group score independently on the spot and evaluate the applicant's professional quality, scientific research ability, language ability, innovative spirit and comprehensive quality. VIII. Admission 1. The university will make a comprehensive evaluation of the applicants based on the preliminary examination of their materials, the results of the reexamination and the opinions of the faculties and departments on the proposed admission, and then determine the list of the applicants to be admitted to the university on the basis of their merits. 2. The list of proposed admissions will be publicized in the faculties by the end of May. Applicants are requested to pay close attention to the information of the public announcement by the faculty. 3. Students to be admitted must send the original downloaded application form and other original application materials (except degree certificates and recommendation letters) to the International Students Office of Peking University by May 31, 2026 or by mail. The International Students Office will notify the students of the admission results after confirmation and intends to issue the admission documents in late June 2026 one after another. IX. Enrollment New students are intended to report for enrollment and registration in early September, 2026, subject to the acceptance letter. International students admitted to the university should report to the university at the specified time with their passports, visas to study in China and admission notices. New students shall bring their original degree certificates to the university for reviewing their eligibility for enrollment, and applicants who have obtained their degree certificates in foreign universities shall also submit the degree authentication report from the Service Center for Scholarly Exchange of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. Those who do not meet the admission requirements will be disqualified. Tuition and Scholarships 1. Tuition Fee: 2026 Tuition Fee for International Graduate Students 2. Scholarships New international students can apply for the following three types of scholarships: (1) Chinese Government Scholarships for High-quality Graduate Students: Full or partial tuition fee waiver, accommodation and medical insurance will be provided. Monthly living expenses are provided according to the relevant standards. (2) Beijing Government Scholarships for International Students: Category A Scholarships: tuition waiver, accommodation, medical insurance, and monthly living expenses according to the relevant standards; Category B Scholarships: tuition waiver, accommodation, and medical insurance; Category C Scholarships: tuition waiver and medical insurance. (3) Peking University Scholarships for Foreign Students: Full or partial tuition waiver, medical insurance. Monthly living expenses are provided according to the relevant standards. Note: Scholarships are evaluated and awarded in accordance with the relevant regulations of the state and the university. Visa, Medical Insurance and Accommodation Admitted students must apply for a study visa in China at the Chinese Embassy or Consulate General abroad with the acceptance letter and the Confirmation of Coming to China for Foreigner Studying Abroad Form (JW201/202 form). Those studying for more than 6 months are required to apply for X1 visa, and they need to go to the International Students Office to change the X1 visa into a study-type residence permit within 30 days after their arrival in China. The Chinese Ministry of Education stipulates that international students must purchase medical insurance in China. If you do not have the required medical insurance, the school will not process your registration. Except for international students admitted to some scholarship programs, international students are required to provide their own accommodation. International students who live off-campus are required to register with the local public security authorities within 24 hours of renting the apartment. Graduation and Degree Conferment Upon completion of the study period, fulfillment of the requirements stipulated in the cultivation plan, passing of the grades, and passing of the dissertation defense, international students will be allowed to graduate and be conferred the corresponding degree upon the examination and approval of the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee of the university. XIII. Other Matters 1. Further information about the enrolling faculties and departments, such as basic information of the faculties and departments, scientific research, supervisory team, cultivation and scholarships, etc., can be found in the websites of the relevant faculties and departments. 2. The University does not allow graduate students to hold two or more academic registrations at the same time. 3. Applicants should pay attention to the relevant documents and notices issued and sent by the University and the enrollment faculties in a timely manner, and they will be responsible for all the consequences caused by their negligence and other personal reasons. 4. For details of enrollment, scholarships and accommodation of international graduate students in the Faculty of Medicine, please refer to its enrollment prospectus. 5. Matters not yet settled shall be carried out in accordance with the relevant policies of the higher authorities and the university. If there are any relevant new policies and requirements, the university will release them in time.
