Program Description:

In order to meet the growing demand for Chinese language education personnel in the international community, to promote the development of Chinese language education in countries around the world, and to help the growth of international Chinese language education personnel, the Center for Sino-Foreign Language Exchanges and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education has established the Scholarship for International Chinese Language Teachers to focus on the cultivation of qualified overseas Chinese language teachers. East China Normal University (ECNU), as the host institution, recruits students for the undergraduate program.

- Chinese International Education Program

- Chinese Language and Literature Program

- Chinese Language (Chinese Language and Culture) Program

- Chinese Language (Business Chinese) Program

Application Requirements:

1. Non-Chinese nationals

2. Be friendly to China, have no illegal or criminal records, and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the university.

3. Physically and mentally healthy, with good character and academic performance

4. Aspire to work in Chinese education, teaching and related fields.

5. Those who come to China for undergraduate programs must have the equivalent of a high school diploma in China

6. No older than 25 years old (as of September 1, 2026)

Language Requirements:

- Chinese International Education majors, Chinese Language (Chinese Language and Culture) majors, Chinese Language (Business Chinese) majors: 210 HSK (Level 4) and 60 HSKK (Intermediate).

- Majoring in Chinese Language and Literature: 180 points in HSK (Level 5) and 60 points in HSKK (Intermediate).

Scholarship Content:

- Free tuition

- Provide school accommodation

- Provide living expenses in China (￥2500/month for undergraduates)

- Provide comprehensive medical insurance for international students in China at the rate of ￥800/person/year

Application Process:

Step 1: Online Application

1、Visit the online application system of the International Education Center of East China Normal University http://lxsapply.ecnu.edu.cn/ to submit the application and pay the application fee of 800 RMB.

2、Visit the International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship website http://cis.chinese.cn to complete the registration and download the application form before February 20-May 15

3、Contact the recommending organization for online recommendation

Step 2: Review

The school will conduct a preliminary examination of the applicants' qualifications according to the admission requirements. For those who pass the preliminary examination, the School of International Chinese Language and Culture will organize a video interview. Based on the results of the preliminary examination and the faculty interview, the school will make a comprehensive evaluation and pre-admit the applicants on the basis of merit. The result of the scholarship evaluation shall further wait for the notification from the Center for Sino-Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation.

Step 3: Admission and Enrollment

Students who have been officially admitted must log on the designated website to download the electronic version of the Admission Notice and the Confirmation Form for Foreign Students Coming to China (JW202) by themselves.

Application Materials:

1. Online application form

2. Scanned copy of passport photo page

3. Scanned copy of HSK, HSKK score report (valid for 2 years)

4. Letter of recommendation issued by the head of the recommending organization

5. Certificate of highest education (certificate of expected graduation) and school transcripts

6. Applicant's personal statement (background of Chinese language learning, plans and goals for studying in China, etc.)

7. Copy of Foreigner's Physical Examination Record
