Southern Medical University Guangdong Provincial Government Freshman Scholarship for International Students from Guangdong Province

In order to attract and encourage more outstanding international students to pursue their degrees at Southern Medical University, and to provide incentives and financial assistance to international students with excellent studies, the University offers International Student Freshman Scholarships for qualified international students to apply.

I. Open Specialties

The Guangdong Provincial Government Scholarship for International Students is open to self-funded applicants in all majors.

Scholarship Criteria

1. New PhD students: Scholarship standard is 30,000 RMB/person/one-time.

2. For new master's degree students: 20,000 RMB/person/one-time.

3. New undergraduate students: 10,000 RMB/person/one-time.

III. Application Requirements

1. Possessing foreign nationality, holding a valid foreign passport and meeting the relevant requirements for international students in China.

2. Age requirement:

1) Applicants for the PhD program should be under 40 years old.

2)Applicants for Master's program should be below 35 years of age.

3) Applicants for undergraduate programs must be under 30 years of age.

3. Friendly to China, physically fit, law-abiding, diligent, of good character, with no adverse record or criminal record.

4. Have good grades and a clear purpose for studying in China. Applicants for master's or doctoral programs must have a GPA of 3.0 or above in their last academic year, with no failed or repeated subjects. Applicants for undergraduate programs must have a grade of 75% or above in all three years of high school, with no failed subjects.

5. Language Requirements:

Applicants for undergraduate programs taught in Chinese: 180 points or above in New HSK Level 4 or proof of equivalent language proficiency;

Application for Chinese-medium postgraduate programs: 180 points or above in New HSK Level 5 or proof of equivalent language proficiency; students whose highest academic qualification is a Chinese-medium program must submit a certificate of Chinese-medium instruction;

Application for English-taught programs: non-English speaking applicants are required to provide proof of TOEFL IBT score of 68 or above or IELTS score of 6.0 or above or proof of equivalent language level. If the highest qualification is obtained in a country where English is the mother tongue and the language of instruction is English, proof of English language instruction must be submitted.

IV. Application Materials (All application materials must be submitted in duplicate)

(I) Graduate applicants

1. Submit the application materials for graduate admission of foreign students, which are detailed in the Admission Guidelines for Graduate Students (Advanced Students) of Foreign Students of Southern Medical University (http://www.studysmu.com);

3. Individual written explanation (Explanation: whether the applicant is willing to change to a self-financed international student if he/she is unable to obtain the scholarship. If this statement is not submitted, the University tacitly assumes that the applicant agrees to switch to be a self-financed international student).

(ii) Undergraduate applicants

1. Submit the application materials for undergraduate admission of foreign students, as detailed in the "Admission Guidelines for Undergraduate Programs (Taught in English) for Foreign Students of Southern Medical University

or "Admission Guidelines for Undergraduate Programs for Foreign Students (Taught in Chinese) of Southern Medical University" (http://www.studysmu.com);

2. Application Form for Guangdong Provincial Government Scholarship for International Students (II) (Download: http://www.studysmu.com);

3. A letter of recommendation from the principal and one teacher of the high school from which the student graduated must be submitted (containing the referee's signature, the referee's valid contact information and the school's official seal);

4. A personal written statement (Description: whether the applicant is willing to change to a self-financed international student if he/she is unable to obtain a scholarship. If this statement is not submitted, the University will assume by default that the applicant agrees to become a self-financed international student).

V. Application Deadline

Before April 30, 2018 All application materials must be mailed or delivered to the School of International Education of Southern Medical University.

VI. Selection Criteria

The school examines the applicants' materials according to the admission criteria and the eligibility conditions of the scholarship students, and draws up the list of winners on the basis of merit.

★ Candidates for Guangdong Provincial Government Scholarship for International Students shall be recommended by the university and then reported to the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, and the final list of awardees shall be based on the list assigned to the university by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education after public announcement.

★ Recipients of this scholarship program are required to pay all the fees (including application fee, tuition fee and accommodation fee) in accordance with the fee standards for self-financed international students enrolled in Southern Medical University, and the scholarship will be paid to the personal bank account provided by the recipient in one lump sum after the enrollment and registration according to the regulations.
