I. Categories of funding
Doctoral students
II. Eligibility
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and in good health;
2. Applicants must meet the admission requirements of Northwestern University for recruiting foreign doctoral students, both with a master's degree or above and a master's degree, and in principle, be no older than 45 years old;
3. The applicant has achieved an average score of 75 or above in his/her major at the master's level;
4. If applying for Chinese-taught doctoral programs, the applicant's Chinese language proficiency must be at least 180 points in the new version of HSK Level 5; if applying for English-taught doctoral programs, the applicant's English language proficiency must be at least 60 points in TOEFL or 5.5 points in IELTS, except for the applicants who are native English speakers;
5. Applicants' undergraduate and master's degree institutions must be internationally recognized institutions. Priority will be given to applicants who have received awards for relevant inventions and those who have published core papers;
6. Applicants who have received financial support from the Chinese government or other scholarships are no longer eligible for the Silk Road Scholarship for Foreign Students of Northwest University.
III. Scholarship Content and Criteria
1.Exemption of tuition fee;
2.Provision of designated accommodation on campus;
3.Provision of living allowance: RMB 3,500 yuan/month/person (paid for twelve months);
4.Provide comprehensive medical insurance for international students coming to China.
IV. Application Period: December 1 of each year to March 15 of the following year

VI. Application Materials
1.Application Form for Enrollment of Foreign Students at Northwestern University (Signature of the applicant is required).
2.A copy of valid ordinary passport;
3.A copy of graduation certificate of the highest educational level, if the applicant is a student, he/she must submit a certificate of enrollment issued by the school he/she is studying in;
4.A copy of the transcript of the highest academic level;
5.Certificate of no criminal conviction (in native language and notarized Chinese translation, 详情咨询tonwu@nwu.edu.cn ) is required for some countries.
6.A copy of the Physical Examination Form for Foreigners (in English, the results of which are valid for 6 months);
7.Copy of valid Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) transcript or copy of English Proficiency Test (TOEFL or ILETS) transcript;
8.Study and research program in China (no less than 800 words, in Chinese or English); and
9.Two letters of recommendation from professors or associate professors (or persons with equivalent titles) (in Chinese or English);
10.Letter of acceptance from the doctoral supervisor of Northwestern University (in Chinese or English).
11.Relevant invention patents or academic papers.
Note: Texts in languages other than Chinese and English must be accompanied by notarized translations in Chinese or English (except for those who have received academic degrees from Chinese universities). All documents must be submitted in duplicate. Application materials will not be returned regardless of acceptance.
VII. Application Procedure
1.Contact the mentor of Northwestern University on your own and obtain a letter of acceptance from the mentor of Western University (priority will be given to those students who have received a letter of acceptance from the mentor);
2. Complete the online registration for international students at Northwest University (http://nwu.17gz.org), print out and sign the Northwest University Application for Admission of Foreign Students;
3. 将所有申请材料清晰电子版发至tonwu@nwu.edu.cn ;
4. After review and approval, please send all paper documents to the School of International Cultural Exchange of Northwest University.

2.Admission and Enrollment
Admission is based on the merit of the application materials. The Office of International Student Admissions, College of International Cultural Exchange, Northwest University will mail the Notice of Admission, visa form (JW202 form), medical examination form and other related documents to the person. The school year begins at the beginning of September every year (the exact time is based on the Notice of Admission). Admitted students are required to report to the School of International Cultural Exchange of Northwestern University strictly according to the time specified in the Admission Notice. Students who do not report for enrollment within three weeks after the specified enrollment time will be disqualified from enrollment.
