I. Introduction
The University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (NUS) has established scholarships to support outstanding young people from foreign countries to come to the University to study for master's and doctoral degrees, as well as to take further courses, academic visits and engage in thematic researches, and to encourage postgraduate students from foreign universities and colleges to come to the University to visit the University for study visits and joint training. The scholarships are divided into full scholarships and partial scholarships. The full scholarship includes exemption of tuition fee, provision of scholarship living expenses, basic accommodation and medical insurance. Partial scholarship includes one or several items of the full scholarship. Starting from the 2016 academic year, the full scholarship is focused on supporting graduate students.
II. Contents of financial support
1. Tuition waiver at NUST
2. Scholarships for living expenses: 2,000 RMB/month for master's degree students and general advanced students, and 2,500 RMB/month for doctoral degree students, advanced advanced students and joint training students. In addition, the supervisors and institutes/colleges will provide scholarships and grants according to the scholarship students' study and scientific research, so that the total amount of scholarships and living expenses available to master's degree students and general advanced students will not be less than 3,000 RMB/month; and the total amount of scholarships and living expenses available to doctoral degree students, advanced advanced students and joint-culture students will not be less than 3,500 RMB/month.
3. Provision of basic accommodation: NUST provides basic accommodation for full scholarship students recruited by research institutes and departments of NUST in Beijing, as well as scholarship students from research institutes outside Beijing who participate in centralized teaching. After the centralized teaching is completed and the scholarship students return to the institute, the institutes outside Beijing will assist the scholarship students in solving their accommodation, and the scholarship students are required to pay the accommodation fee according to the regulations of the institute.
4. Provide comprehensive medical insurance: the insurance cost is 800 RMB/person for one year and 400 RMB/person for half a year. III. Duration of Sponsorship (Non-extendable)
1. Master's degree students: no more than 36 months;
2. Doctoral students: not more than 36 months;
3. Joint graduate students: 6-24 months;
4. General advanced training students and advanced training students: 6-24 months.
IV. Application Requirements
1. Be eligible to apply for admission as an international student at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (refer to the Admission Guidelines for International Students at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences);
2. Be recommended by the supervisor and the institute/college;
3. Have a positive attitude and good grades in study and research;
4. Not supported by other scholarships at the time of application;
5. Age requirement:
i. Master's students: born on or after January 1, 1988 (inclusive);
ii. Ph.D. students: born after January 1, 1983 (inclusive);
iii. joint training graduate students: no age limit;
iv. General advanced students and advanced advanced students: no more than 40 years old;
6. Proficiency in English or Chinese: If the applicant's native language is not English, the applicant is required to have: a) major undergraduate courses taught in English and clearly marked on his/her transcripts; or b) a TOEFL score of not less than 90 or an IELTS score of not less than 6.5; or c) Level 5 of the New HSK Level Examination (with a score of 200 or above);
7. Other requirements for joint graduate students:
i. The applicant must be a graduate student enrolled in a foreign university;
ii. The foreign university has signed a relevant exchange and cooperation agreement with CAS/NUST/Institute;
iii. Must report for enrollment by November 2018
iv. The duration of the visit to the university or joint training should not be less than 6 months.
8. Other requirements for advanced students:
i. Must report for enrollment by November 2018
ii. The duration of the refresher course shall not be less than six (6) months.
v. Application Steps
1. The applicant determines that he/she is eligible to apply.
2. Applicant contacts and is accepted by a mentor at NUST.
3. Applicant submits an online application for admission to http://adis.ucas.ac.cn.
4. Required Materials:
Scanned copy of personal information page of ordinary passport (passport must be valid for at least 2 years);
Two-inch personal passport photo recent photo;
Personal resume (must include a brief description of research experience);
Scanned copy of the original degree certificate;
Scanned copy of the original academic transcript;
Certificate of English or Chinese language proficiency;
Detailed study plan;
Scanned copies of the titles and copies of the first pages of up to five representative published academic papers (if any), please do not provide unpublished papers.
Letters of recommendation from two professors or scholars with equivalent titles;
Physical examination form for foreigners
