The "New Sinology Program" is established by the Center for Sino-Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation (CCLEC) to support foreign students to come to China for doctoral studies and research, and to cultivate young sinologists with an international academic outlook, a good understanding of international academic rules, and the ability to participate in international academic exchanges and research, which includes the PhD program and the Sino-Foreign Cooperative Program. We welcome qualified young scholars to apply for the program. The Sino-foreign Cooperative Doctoral Program (Advanced Candidate Program) supports outstanding foreign universities to register doctoral students to come to China to study, carry out joint research, and write doctoral dissertations during their study period. It usually lasts for one semester to two academic years. Advanced Advanced Students do not take courses. If they need to observe courses, they need to obtain the consent of their supervisors and faculties. Qualifications Aspire to conduct research in China-related humanities and social sciences, have a solid academic foundation, have a clear research topic or goal, and be able to conduct research in Chinese, as follows: 1. Non-Chinese citizens holding valid foreign passports, formally registered as doctoral students of a regular foreign university, under 50 years old, in good health, and in compliance with the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the university. 2. The applicant must be in good health, abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the regulations of the university. 2.The language level of the applicant should reach HSK Level 3 or above, and those with excellent Chinese language skills are preferred under the same conditions. After successful application, download and print the "Application Form of Peking University for Foreign Students (Advanced Candidate)" and affix photos and signatures. 2. Log on the website of the New Sinology Program at http://www.chinese.cn/page/#/pcpage/csp to submit the online application, and print the "Application Form of Chinese-foreign Cooperative Cultivation of Doctoral Degree Programs of the New Sinology Program" after successful application. Step 2: Submission of Paper Documents 1. Application Form for Chinese-Foreign Cooperative Doctoral Program of New Sinology Program (copy) 3. Certificate of doctoral study (original or notarized translation in Chinese or English) 4. Transcripts of doctoral study (original or notarized translation in Chinese or English) 5. Two original letters of recommendation from professors or associate professors (or specialists with comparable professional and technical titles) in the field of specialization you are applying for in Chinese or English. Recommendation letters should be submitted in the following ways (choose one of the two): (1) Paper-based recommendation letters (original letters in Chinese or English); (2) Electronic recommendation letters: the recommender will send the recommendation letters directly to ischolarship@pku.edu.cn via his/her email address. 6. Transcripts of Chinese Proficiency Examination (HSK) (photocopies) 7. Abstracts of Master's thesis and other research results 8. Abstract of doctoral dissertation (if any) 9. Personal statement and research plan during the period of stay in China (not less than 1000 words), written in Chinese or English. 10.Photocopy of passport, which must be an ordinary passport within the validity period. Note: (1) The applicant's supervisor must be the same in both websites. (2) If the applicant has already contacted the target supervisor and received a reply, please be sure to attach the relevant email or letter to the application materials. (3) Application materials will not be returned. Admission results will be notified by email. 3.Admission is usually in September or February, depending on the acceptance letter. V. Visa, Medical Insurance and Accommodation Accepted students must apply for a study visa at the Chinese Embassy with the acceptance letter and the relevant electronic certificate (JW202/DQ). Students studying for more than 6 months should apply for X1 visa with the "Confirmation Form of Coming to China for Overseas Students" (Form 202), and they need to go to the International Students Office to convert the X1 visa into a residence permit for study within 30 days after their arrival in China. Students whose study period is less than half a year should apply for X2 visa with the "Information Form for Short-term International Students Coming to China" (DQ form). The Ministry of Education of China stipulates that international students must purchase medical insurance in China. Students can purchase comprehensive medical insurance coverage for incoming students at the registration desk on the day of arrival and registration. The university will not process the registration for those who have not purchased the required medical insurance. International students who live off-campus are required to register with the local public security authorities within 24 hours of renting the apartment.
