Scholarship Details
In order to cultivate qualified Chinese language teachers and promote the international promotion of the Chinese language and the spread of Chinese culture, the Confucius Institute Headquarters/State Hanban (hereinafter referred to as Hanban) has established the Confucius Institute Scholarship, which entrusts Confucius Institutes, independent Confucius Classrooms, and some of the Chinese language examination centers overseas (hereinafter referred to as the recommending organizations) with recommending outstanding students and in-service Chinese language teachers to study in Chinese universities (hereinafter referred to as the accepting institutions).
I. Funding Objectives
1. Non-Chinese nationals.
2. Physically and mentally healthy, with good academic performance.
3. Be interested in Chinese language education, teaching and international promotion of Chinese language.
4.The age is 16-35 years old (uniformly based on September 1, 2018). In-service Chinese language teachers are relaxed to 45 years old, and applicants for undergraduate scholarships are generally no more than 25 years old.
II. Scholarship Categories and Application Requirements
1.Master's degree in Chinese International Education
Enrollment in September 2018, the funding period is 2 years.
Have a bachelor's degree. Achieve 210 points in HSK (Level 5) and 60 points in HSKK (Intermediate) in Chinese language examination. Those who provide the work agreement of the proposed teaching organization after graduation or relevant certificates are preferred.
2. Bachelor's Degree in International Chinese Education
Enrollment in September 2018, the funding period is 4 years.
Have a high school education. Achieve 210 points in HSK (Level 4) and 60 points in HSKK (Intermediate) in Chinese language examination.
3. One academic year trainee
Enrollment in September 2018 and the funding period is 11 months. No foreign students in China will be admitted.
(1) Chinese International Education
Achieve 270 points in HSK (Level 3) with HSKK on the Chinese language test.
(2) Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, Chinese Philosophy
Achieve 180 points in HSK (Level 4) and 60 points in HSKK (Intermediate) in Chinese language examination.
(3) Chinese Language Training
Achieve 180 points in HSK (Level 3).
(4) One semester trainee
Enrollment in September 2018 and March 2019, the period of financial support is 5 months. Those with X1 and X2 visas in their passports will not be admitted.
(1) Chinese International Education, Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, Chinese Philosophy
Achieve a score of 210 on HSK (Level 3) with HSKK on the Chinese language test.
(2) Chinese Medicine, Taiji Culture
With HSK score.
5. Four-week trainee
Enrollment in July or December 2018 with a 4-week funding period. Those with X1 and X2 visas in their passports will not be admitted.
(1) Traditional Chinese Medicine and Taiji Culture
With HSK score.
(2) Chinese Language + Chinese Family Experience
With HSK score. Groups are organized by Confucius Institutes for registration, and contact the receiving institutions in advance to determine the study plan in China, and report to the headquarters for approval in advance, 10-15 students per group.
(3) Confucius Institute Specialized Four-week Student
Have HSK scores. The Confucius Institute will organize a group of 10-15 students per group for registration.
Process
Starting from March 1, 2018, applicants can log on the Confucius Institute Scholarship website (cis.chinese.cn) to apply for the Confucius Institute Scholarship.
Log on to the Confucius Institute Scholarship website to inquire about the recommending organizations and receiving institutions; submit application materials online, pay attention to the application process, review comments and scholarship evaluation results; scholarship recipients confirm with the receiving institutions to go through the procedures for studying in China and print the award certificates online; enroll and report to school at the time stipulated in the acceptance notification of the receiving institutions.
The deadline for application is:
1. April 20 (July enrollment).
2. June 20 (September admission).
3. September 20 (December enrollment).
4. December 20 (March 2019 enrollment).
Hanban centralizes the evaluation and selects the best candidates for funding, completes the evaluation of the scholarships 2 months prior to enrollment, and announces the results of the evaluation.
IV. About Chinese Bridge Winners
Those who have won the 2018 Confucius Institute Scholarship Certificates in various Chinese Bridge competitions should log on the website of Confucius Institute Scholarship and submit application materials to the target receiving institutions with the scholarship certificates.

V. Recommending Organizations and Receiving Institutions
Recommendation agencies and receiving institutions fulfill their local responsibilities according to the present measures and provide consultation, recommendation, enrollment and other services.
Others
1. For the relevant professional training programs and teaching curricula, please consult the target receiving institutions.
2. Applicants should know the specific admission requirements and application deadlines of the target institutions and submit application materials in accordance with the relevant regulations.
3. Academic students are required to take part in the annual evaluation, as detailed in the Annual Evaluation of Confucius Institute Scholarships.
4. Failure to report on time, failure to pass the physical examination for enrollment, dropping out or taking a leave of absence will lead to disqualification for the scholarship.
