Scholarship Details

I. Categories of funding

Long-term language trainees, undergraduate students, master's degree students, doctoral students

Eligibility

1.Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and in good health.

2.Academic qualifications and age requirements:

(1) Applicants for long-term language students and those pursuing bachelor's degree must have high school graduation or above, and their age should not exceed 35 years old in principle.

(2) Those who are pursuing a master's degree must have a bachelor's degree or above, and their age should not exceed 40 years old in principle.

(3) Those who are pursuing a doctoral degree must have a master's degree or higher, and their age should not exceed 45 years old in principle.

Note: All applicants must be at least 18 years old.

3. Language Proficiency and Professional Achievement Requirements:

(1) Applicants for Chinese-medium undergraduate programs must have a Chinese language proficiency of at least 180 points in the new HSK Level 4; applicants for Chinese-medium master's and doctoral programs must have a Chinese language proficiency of at least 180 points in the new HSK Level 5, and have good grades in their undergraduate majors.

(2) For English-medium undergraduate programs, except for native English speakers, applicants must have an English proficiency of at least 50 points in TOEFL or 5 points in IELTS.

(3) For PhD programs taught in English, all applicants, except native English speakers, must have a minimum of 60 points in TOEFL or 5.5 points in IELTS, and good grades in their master's degree programs.

4.Applicants who have received financial support from the Chinese government or other scholarships are no longer eligible for the Northwest University Scholarships for Foreign Students.

III. Scholarship Content and Criteria

1.There are three levels of scholarships.

First Class Scholarship:Exemption from full tuition and accommodation fees;

Second Class Scholarship: Full exemption from tuition fees;

Third-class scholarship: half of the full tuition fee.

VI. Application materials

1.Application Form for Enrollment of Foreign Students at Northwestern University (Signature of the applicant is required).

2.A copy of valid ordinary passport;

3.A copy of graduation certificate of the highest educational level, if the applicant is a student, he/she must submit a certificate of enrollment issued by the school he/she is studying in;

4.A copy of the transcript of the highest academic level;

5.Certificate of no crime (详情咨询tonwu@nwu.edu.cn ) is required for some countries.

6.A copy of the Physical Examination Form for Foreigners (in English, the results of which are valid for six months);

7.A copy of the transcript of the valid Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) or a copy of the transcript of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL or ILETS);

8.Study and research program in China (no less than 800 words, in Chinese or English)

9.Two letters of recommendation (in Chinese or English) from professors or associate professors (or persons with equivalent titles) are required for master's and doctoral applicants;

10.Master's and PhD applicants are required to contact their supervisors, and preference will be given to applicants with a letter of acceptance from their supervisors (in Chinese or English)

11.Relevant invention patents or academic papers

Note: Texts in languages other than Chinese and English must be accompanied by notarized translations in Chinese or English (except for those who have obtained a degree from a Chinese university). All documents are to be submitted in duplicate. Application materials will not be returned regardless of acceptance.

VII. Application Procedure

1. Complete the Northwestern University International Student Online Registration (http://nwu.17gz.org), print out and sign the Northwestern University Application for Admission of Foreign Students;

2. 将所有申请材料清晰电子版发至tonwu@nwu.edu.cn ;

3. After review and approval, please send all paper documents to the School of International Cultural Exchange of Northwest University.

2.Admission and Enrollment

Admission is based on merit according to the application materials. The Office of International Student Admissions, College of International Cultural Exchange, Northwest University will mail the Notice of Admission, visa form (JW202 form), medical examination form and other relevant documents to the person. The school year begins at the beginning of September every year (the exact time is based on the Notice of Admission). Admitted students are required to report to the School of International Cultural Exchange of Northwestern University strictly according to the time specified in the Admission Notice. Students who do not report for enrollment within three weeks after the specified enrollment time will be disqualified from enrollment.
